Can we get Aigo's take on this? My understanding was that TRUE "Extreme Editions" came in Black boxes, and have "X" in the model code.

Do these IVB-E chips have onboard graphics that is just not enabled or do they also lack the onboard graphics like SB-E chips?

Pretty certain that they lack onboard graphics totally. Which means that die sizes shouldn't be much more than quads with IGPs. Which means that Intel is CLEARLY price-gouging enthusiasts.

Die size of the 6C IVB-EP is 256mm^2, so it's a fair bit bigger than the HSW 4C.

For the last time, Newegg, and everyone else that makes this mistake, the -E platform does NOT stand for "Extreme", it stands for "Enthusiast".

I have to say though, Newegg's discounts these days are just pathetic. Their big edge is they get the cutting edge stuff in stock. None of the others (TankGuys, etc.) are even close. Of course, if there's another online option I haven't heard of...

Yup. This is a true 6 core die, as well, and not a 8 core die like SB-E was. It's a die with fewer cores, on a smaller process node- it should be a LOT smaller than the SB-E die was. These prices are just abusive.

Yes it is horrid.

I also had Pentium 60 which cost an absurd amount of money.
It does not matter nowadays though - if x86 CPUs would return to prices in times when only relatively small number of enthusiasts had them - I would stop buying them. Peroid.

Sorry I value money and pc hardware nowadays diffrently. Because it's value is actually diffrent. PC and generally IT nowadays is extremly mainstream and economy nowadays is diffrent. (yes wages are higher, but i.e. energy, childcare, good healthy non-trash food or health care prices increased even more than wages did in last 20 years).

So stop whining about others whining.
