4870x2 too hot?

hi, I just recently bought a second hand 4870x2 and I know they are meant to run hot but I am wondering if mine is running too hot it idles at 72c and when I play street fighter it goes up to 84c, are these temps safe

your fan speed is probably running @ 29% (default). use ccc and turn up fan speed to 45-50% -- this should drop idle & load temps.

I got it set at 50% now, what concerns me is that I am currently playing on a resolution of 1280 x 1024 but I have a new monitor on order which has a resolution of 1900 x 1200 and at that resolution I can see it hitting 90c and I don't think that safe

The 4xxx series was really dumb having the default fan speed set to 29% and the ramp up speeds at a crappy low increments. I seriously had to RMA my 4870x2 about 3 times before I just modded the BIOS myself to have a starting fan speed of 46% and ramps up to 100% at 70C instead of the default of 120C.

Just google how to mod the bios for fan speeds and it's really simple to do. I highly recommend it.
