nvidia's plan with not stripping down all those gpgpu features was using physX on cuda... and video encoding on cuda as well... they even bought ageia for it.
This is kind of like the PS3, the PS3 is horribly overpriced as gaming system alone... but it is also THE blu-ray player, and it has some other minor functions. It is worth it to some people, it is not worth it to others.
