4870 non-stock coolers - when???

Anyone heard when VisionTek and others will be releasing cards with non-reference coolers and putting their own on? I am trying to hold off on my purchase; but man these cards are too damn tempting, lol

I heard that they are coming in a few weeks, but I wouldn't quote me on that.

If I am not worried about the noise will these new coolers really make a lot of difference? I have a Coolermaster stacker with 8 fans so the case stays pretty cool as is.

Besides the noise - will the current fans do okay with the hotfix? If so not sure I can wait any longer, lol

ya ,they can keep the cards at 45C idle and 60c load on 100% .

If you're not bothered by noise, then it's ok. In terms of adequately cooling the card, yes, the stock HSF does fine. Upping the fan speed to 35-40% provides fairly decent results. Any higher and it starts to get a bit gratuitous (and also much louder).

The top end on the fan seems to be fairly high...I think at 35%, you're already at ~2600RPM, which is far higher than the max 900RPM for the 120mm fan I'm using on my aftermarket cooler.

Buy the card quit worrying about temps, just set the fan speed to 33% etc and enjoy the card. FFS all these people getting so wound up over temps on something that runs WELL into safe operating limits.
