4870 and WC3

Hmm, seems that this older game doesn't seem to run to well on the 4870.

Every other game runs fine.. Checking the FPS, it seems it is going at 60 fps, I intentionally have vsync enabled.

Yet I see tearing.

Anyone else having this issue?

are you by any chance running it in window mode? vsync doesnt work in window mode.

If not report it as a bug so they can get to work on fixing it.

Tearing is definitely extremely puzzling considering RTS games have very fixed scrolling speeds. Even odder with vsync enabled.

I don't know if it is the 4870 or not. I need someone else to confirm.

I've tried in both Vista and XP (32bit). Same results (Xp has hotfix driver, Vista has 8.7)

Something is definitely rotten in denmark, turning Vsync on or off seems to have no difference. I think for some reason Warcraft isn't working with CCC.

just to be sure... you are using drivers 8.7, and you set vsync to "always on, even if game explicitly forbids it"?

Ok apparently going into regedit, I noticed that WC3 had set refresh rate to 75. Which in any other circumstance would be ignored, being how I have an LCD that is only capable of 60Hz. Changing this to 60Hz fixed my problem. Who the hell knows.

I suppose the good news is I learned I could force any resolution in WC3 via regedit.
