I see I'm not the only one wondering about this, huh? :D

I think (MHO based on past actions by ATI/NVIDIA) we'll start seeing the 1GB 4870s around the same time the 4870X2 is on the market. Another month or so.

Would be nice if the 4870 1GB cards were $300 and the 512MB cards about $250, wouldn't it? :gift:

I'm looking at upgrading my 8800GT to a 4870; would be a nice (but not huge) upgrade. Being that I game at 19x12 w/eye candy (when possible), I need the extra horsepower. But a $500 is out of the question. $300 is my limit...mainly b/c I hate seeing how my $300 sells for $150 just six months later.

I'd like a 4870 but the idea of regressing back to 512 MB doesn't leave me comfortable in modern games.

Despite the fact that their Customer Support is downright dreadful (read: impolite, unhelpful and generally anti-customer friendly), OcUK are a great source of components offering decent prices and items that you just wont find anywhere else.

At that price, Im glad I plumped for a 512mb card.

Yep,I got my 512mb Gigabyte 4870 for 172 quid at Dabs.com, paying extra 62 quid for 1GB version is not worth it,especially at my gaming res of 1680x1050.

Thanks, at least now we know they're on the way. A 1GB 4870 is an excellent offering, perfect balance of features. 512MB 4870 are dropping slighly. I'm thinking in US we'll see $279 512MB and $329 1GB.

Pricing will likely be dependent on supplies and yields of GDDR5. Would be nice to see those prices though.

Why do you need to see a pic? Its going to look identical to the 512MB version. :p

Not necessarily. Depends if you're talking about a regular RV770 with 1GB or the upcoming Super RV770 which is supposed to ship with 1GB and a HSF that has water cooling built in.

Personally, this is the one I'm waiting to be released before I decide what card to purchase for my new system. If the price is within $60-$70 of the regular 512MB 4870, I'll probably pick one up. It would be nice to be able to just plumb it into my water cooling system without having to mod anything or lose my card's warranty.

Seriously, they may have the latest components available before anyone else, but in my experience they are actually over priced. I guaranty I could find any product they else cheaper elsewhere from a UK online retailer.

Their customer service, as you say, sucks. They only publish the good reviews people leave for their products. And erm for some reason they stopped showing prices including VAT on most of their pages, who the hell want to see the prices before VAT? Yeah it makes the products look 17.5% cheaper but who the hell actually falls for that? It's just annoying.

I would get 260gtx before I get a 512mb 4870.

And just what the heck does this have to do with a 1GB 4870? No threadcrapping, please

They were the first company out of about 20 I looked at who had the 4870's in stock and they were the best priced... of course the cards have dropped like £20 since I got mine even on OcUK.

With Fud claiming the 55 nm GT200 is coming in Aug/Sep, I might just do that.

1Ghz core clock? I know how hot my 4870 gets at stock clocks and stock cooling. If the water pump ever fails, the card is going to melt a hole through the motherboard and case.

This card really interests me. Think the 1GB memory and increased clock should let it stretch out its legs fully.

That cooler looks nice - it reminds me of the old 7900 GTX cooler. I wonder how much extra performance 1 GB will bring to the table?
