CPU - e6420, not overclocked (can't, no options and no interest)
Monitor: 1650 x 1080
I usually leave AA off and crank up AF.
Power Supply Corsair 550VX.

Games Played: Dawn of War, LOTRO, Sins of a Solar Empire.

4850: MSI has a version with a different cooler, 192 on the egg. Good buy, supposedly quiet and cool...which is good for when I listen to my music.

4870: Seems like it's quiet (any commentary? Decibals?) . My current 8800GTS is barely audible, similarly designed cooler.

Is it worth it to get the 4870? Furthermore, how is the volume of the fan? That is my primary concern. Either card will play my games fine, but the 4870 is only 70 bucks more.

For your usage the MSI 4850 (it's not $162 MIR) would be the best option.

I would definitely go with the MSI 4850. Everyone on newegg raves about it and says how cool and quiet it runs. That heatsink looks beautiful. I'd get one if i sold my GTS.

Even for those :) How can you beat $162 for such a nice card? ;)

At that resolution and the games you play you should get the HD4850. HD4870 is overkill and by the time you upgrade your monitor or CPU the HD4870 will be outdated anyways.

My thoughts exactly. End of 2009 I'll be doing a complete rebuild. This was just to tide me over :)

Thanks Everyone!
