Ok so i actually ordered the 4770. But its really hard to get because its out of stock everywhere. I thought about changing the order to a 4850 instead, but upon further research there seems to be a lot of talk about this card being very noisy. But are they really that noisy, or was it just a problem earlier that has been fixed later?

Thanks in advance.

I have the HIS ICEQ4 4850 and I can't distinguish he video card in my computer. My computer is pretty darn quiet too.

However, this isn't the standard cooling for the 4850.

Stock card fans tend to be noisy. However as long as your not putting load on the card it should be fairly quiet... fan noises on those cards scale well. Or you could find one with a custom heatsink... I've seen one version with a very good passive cooler that's supposed to be better than stock.

I've got a 4670 and a 4850. With stock heatsinks (both reference designs), the 4850 was a bit louder. I'm sure that the 4770 is slightly louder than the 4670.

With an accelero S1 on the 4850 (incl 120mm fan), it's nearly silent.

Which 4850 is it? There are quite a few these days that have non reference coolers, some of which are very quiet. When I got mine, I got the cheapest one Newegg had (Palit), and its non reference cooler is effectively silent. It's easily the quietest fan in my system, yet it keeps the 4850 at under 60C loaded.

My power supply is rather loud, so I can't really notice my Vidcard fan, but my Gigabyte has a Zalman cooler on it that seems very quiet.
