4850 Cooling

I'm exchanging my xfx 8800gs tomorrow at newegg for a new card. I am learning towards a 4850. Do other brands besides Asus allow you to adjust the fan speed? Thanks in advance!

Well, all brands allow you to adjust the fan speed with the help of RivaTuner. It's a program that lets you overclock your video card and adjust the fan speed on any graphics card.

You can adjust the fan speed within the Catalyst Control Center:

Open CCC
Go to ATI Overdrive and unlock
Go to Profiles and save profile
Go to "C:\Documents and Settings\YOURLOGINNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\ATI\ACE"
Edit XML file with the profile name you saved
Adjust these settings:

<Feature name="FanSpeedAlgorithm_0">
<Property name="FanSpeedAlgorithm" value="Manual" />
</Feature>
<Feature name="FanSpeedRPMTarget_0">
<Property name="Want" value="0" />
</Feature>
<Feature name="FanSpeedPercentTarget_0">
<Property name="Want" value="65" />
</Feature>

I have mine set to 65 which is somewhat audible but doesn't bother me.

I was under the impression that the temps for this card were really high, because the fan speeds, besides the asus model, could not be changed. What % speed is the fan at stock that leads to the 80-90*C load temps?
