No.

Either way upgrading from 730mhz 8800GT to 4850 is a waste of $.

A 4850 will work at full capacity on an older PCI-e 1.x x16 lane, it doesn't need a newer PCI-e 2.0 motherboard/chipset (on the other hand, a dual GPU 4870X2 might, but that's a different discussion)

I busted my 8800GT and can't wait for the replacement RMA.

I need my gaming fix NOW!!!


And I hopped in on the Asus 4850 deal at newegg for 150 (after rebate)

Yeah, I was all set to pull the trigger on the 4870, but Newegg wanted 340 (shipping + tax).

That's $185 more than the 4850. I need my fix, but I've got bills to pay.

I figure I can sell the 8800 GT for ~$120. $40 bucks to "upgrade" ain't too bad. And any longer and the 8800 GT will be near worthless on the market.

It's like my own "step-up program." In another 3 months, I might be able to step up to the 4870 or GTX260 for 40 bones.
