4800 X2 or FX-57?

I am deciding between a 4800 X2 (hyperthreaded) or a single FX-57. Cost is NOT a factor.

My system will be used for web development, moderate graphics work, gaming, and general business apps.

Which one would you buy?

Thanks!

4800+. Dual cores are the future.

as it looks like you will be multi tasking a multi task able processor would be what you are looking for, so go with the 4800+, or go for the 4400+ as that is just as good and is only 200Mhz slower for a lot less then the 4800+, plus in the future you will be able to OverClock it if you wanted to, definitely atleast 200Mhz OC for 4800+ speeds ;)

X2 4800+ since you're doing more than just gaming. And note, the X2's do not have hyperthreading.

you should be able to hit 2.6 easily and have a shot at 2.8, having 2 fx-55 or 2 fx-57 is clearly better than 1

WOW!

100% for the X2. I'm suprised someone does not feel that the extra MHZ of the FX-57 would overide the X2's dual capability.

at the end of the day the FX57 can just do a given task quicker than the x2, unless the app or what ever is designed to work on dual core (mulitple threads) otherwise it wouldnt be. So the FX57 is good for gaming at the moment as games only work on single threads, this is untill games become multi threaded and make full use fo the second core.. but when the FX57 comes to do two things at the same time it will struggle, where as the X2 would be fine

anytime you say "cost is not an factor" and you throw an x2 on the table its a no brainer :p

FX57 is a mostly pointless waste of money - you pay a fortune for something that's only slightly faster then many much cheaper athlons (particularly after overclocking). All the cheaper athlons have no problem playing todays games so you can only be buying it because you want to have a top end processor in the future. Only the future is dual core and the FX57 isn't - when all the dual core games arrive it'll be dog slow in comparison to any dual core chip.

Unless you upgrade every year, only play games, and must have the ultimate highest fps today I can't see why anyone would want an FX57 when they can get an X2?

i would never spend 1000 bucks on a processor alone. however, x2 is the way to go in the future. i am waiting till prices drop.

It's only 200mhz, it won't be that much faster even in the cases where it's faster.

BTW, X2 is dual core, not hyperthreading. Hyperthreading divides 1 processor into two slower ones, X2 has two fast processors.

Another vote for X2, the 4800+ should easily overclock 400mhz to equal the FX-57 speed.

The only reason to go FX-57 IMO is if you are a competitive benchmarker and are going to use exotic cooling such as cascade phase, LN2, or DI. With these cooling methods you can hit 3.5+ or better with the FX-57

4400+ even though price is not a factor, for your needs it would be money out the window.

4800+ X2 (or save some money by getting the 4400+)

the FX-57 is faster in games, but overall, the X2 experience is better.

Do you guys know of a computer Manufacturer that sells overclocked systems? I'd rather not go the DIY route.

If you want to o/c best off buying all the bits and doing it yourself. It's not that hard but if you don't feel confident or don't have the time/skills then just buy an X2 4800.

I hate to do a little thread hijacking but the 4400+ is basically two 3700+ sand diego cores put onto one processor correct? Will they preform the same in single threaded apps?

They will perform the same, or slightly better, as the second core can handle Windows, and you can also leave a Web browser or IM client open while you are doing a single threaded app (gaming), without a performance penalty (providing you have enough RAM).
