Hi all, sorry if this is a stupid question or if this has been asked before but i,m new to all this upgrade game.

I am in the position of upgrading my sytem an would like your opinion on if i should go for the AMD 4800+ processor and keep my ati 9800 pro graphics card or should i opt for the 4400+ cpu and put the money saved towards a better graphics card such as the new 7800 range.
Which do you think would give me the best results for games playing.

Thanks in advance for any help

Definately the 4400+ with a better graphics card!!! The card will make most of the difference for gaming.

Now if you are a little more flexible and willing to overclock....

I'd suggest and Opteron 140 series or 165,170 (if you like dual core) and overclock! The 140 will easily match or surpass the 4800+ for pure MHZ. Much the same for 165 and 170.

With the money saved, you can afford a VERY nice graphics card.

Yep, definatly go for the better video card, the video card is what makes the differance in gaming, the CPU has limited effect in gaming except at lower resolutions. Like he said, if you overclock, the opteron 170 is probably the best choice, otherwise go with the 4400 and 7800GT or GTX.

High end graphics card > high end cpu. Even A64 3000+ and 7800GT will destroy A64 4800+ and Radeon 9800Pro in any game.

So first spend on the graphics card, and then the cpu if gaming is your concern.

ok now im curious. Was thinking about getting a dual procressor such as the 4400+ but you all believe oveclocking an opetron cpu would be better.
Now for a complete newbie to overclocking like myself how easy is it to overclock, is it just a bios setting or will i have to buy extra hardware to keep the chip cool.
Any answers or links to SIMPLE guides would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
