480 Watts Blue IDE Power Supply W/Serial Power

Looks to be the same at this. Some bad reviews but most are good.

this sparkle 350 is a pretty good supply. Almost the same output as that 480. Just no ata connectors, the adapters are cheap. Im weary of lesser PSs after having a couple die.

That power supply is made by Powmax which we should all know their reputation by now. Besides 3BTech.net has it for $27.49 shipped.

I'd say this is cold.

people overlook a good PS. My gf has a cheap PS, when it died, it took the MB, keyboard, mouse, and the videocard with it.

😉Fortunately TechSunny matched 3btech.net.

Hope this helps.

How much power does your system need? 480 watts will definately be enough for 'any' system that I build!!!

With 'room' to spare.

How does a PS failure take KB, and mouse too? I understand the MB and ram. I had one cheapo failure. Capacitor blew (loud bang, lots of smoke), and I was mighty worried but when I checked, everything was a-ok. Just put in a new PSU and went back to work. Still, since then, I pay $s for decent PSUs.

That "Monster" of a power supply only has 17 amps on the 12v rail...I'd say this deal is COLD!!

Same thing happened at my work (video rental store) last month. 4 pm we hear the the pop from the server computer, suddenly it smells like exploded fireworks and we have to go the next 7 hours renting movies to people on binder paper (techs didn't want to show up until the next morning).

If it's not a psu built by a quality name (e.g. antec, enermax, etc) don't count on it delivering that wattage. As someone already pointed out, this thing only puts out 17 amps on the 12v rail. Compare that to antec's 480w that will put out 28 amps. As always, I recommend staying far away from powmax..

yah but powmax makes those ultra x-connect psu's you all drool over
there elite!
lmao
the power supply game is a tricky one, like the thread I got bashed over here for posting about an l&c power supply
well... l&c is deer, allied, leadman, apex... god knows who else

When people bring up power supplys Enermax comes to the top of the list in most peoples cases for psu's. If I only remember who made the actual internals of enermax, I saw once and laughed, off googling I go......

some good places to go to get and IDEA of good/bad companys

http://www.intel.com/cd/channe...source_lists/35815.htm

http://www.amd.com/us-en/Proce...69_1039%5E4038,00.html

another place to go is to major manufactures of server boards

http://www.tyan.com/support/html/r_s2885.html
http://www.tyan.com/support/html/r_s2668.html

quote http://www.dansdata.com/sfpsu.htm "Enermax, sure. Topower, no problem. Super Flower? Please.

It turns out, however, that these three brands are... well, they're actually pretty much the same. I'm told that they're all made in the same factory in Guangzhou. The companies they're made for are different, but they're just OEMs, at least as far as their PSU business goes."

I don't think anyone was bashing you in that thread. Everyone was simply pointing out that deer psus have had their fair share of problems and should most likely be avoided.

Edit: Interesting article too. All I can say is I recommend you buy a psu from a brand that has proved to be reliable. Powmax has never shown me that, so I would not buy one of theirs (nor would I buy one of the x-connects that they apparently make).

LOL...Yeah...It was a good decision not going with an extra $30 for the Antec...

But really that sucks!

So Antecs "never" blow?

Heck the True 380S PSU that ship with the current Sonatas have +12v rails rated at 24A now.

Why do people keep writing "but (blah blah blah has (blahblah) amps of 12V)?

Antec's PSU cannot sustain 28A on 12V.
That is a peak rating.

BUT, at least Antec isn't pulling numbers out of their arse like crooks slapping "480W" labels on THESE POS.

For your $30, you're getting a power supply inferior to a 300W Sparkle in every way except for the amount of blue light and smoke it creates, and that $30 is supporting fraud.

How does a PS failure take KB, and mouse too?

My guess would be an overload shot of power going through the mobo connectors to the components. Likely pretty rare, but could happen (obviously did, eh? LOL).

I've replaced 2 powmax power supplies for friends that foolishly built systems with them (against my advice, no less.....they bought cases with power supplies, and thought I was crazy to tell them to throw out the power supply and use something good). One guy lost his video card.....completely DEAD after the power supply died. The other guy called me one night, and said his computer was acting funky......worked for a while, stopped working, rebooted.....finally, after 20 minutes of troubleshooting over the phone, he told me the power led on his mobo kept changing from green to red......told him to get his box over here asap, before the p/s fried everything.

If nothing else, powmax p/s's are just too lightweight to be of any quality. Yeah, if you want, you can scoff.... but I've got two old powmax p/s's here, a 400w and a 350w, that combined weigh less than a superflower 350w p/s. If you buy powmax, expect it to die within a year. If you're lucky, it'll die lonely, and not take out anything else in your case.

oh yeah, it happens. I had an old server going, an AT. The PS turned out to be flakey. My cuz said he suspected it when he gave it to me. Worked fine for me, for about 6 months, just long enough to get 30 gigs of files onto it.
I came home to that sickening smell, and that PS had killed everything in the case, and I mean everything. Every PCI card was dead, drives had chips popped on them, you name it.
On another note, I have also used a powerman for over 2 years on my main computer. No issues. Go figure!
