I am firmly seated on the toilet seat. Atkins is an excellent diet but it ain't for me. I had severe headaches, constipation and am starved. I do not eat beef and eat chicken once a week. Now, I have been eating chicken since yesterday and cannot take it anym0re ...:( I am not able to concentrate on anything.

In the next couple of hours, I am gonna quit Atkins and eat a lot of carbs. :D rice, bread, banana, icecream, etc.,

Edit: I do not eat beef & pork (religious reasons). All through my life, I had chicken only once or twice every two weeks. I am used to eating rice or roti (tortilla) everyday.

Update:I feel like putting some ice cubes underneath.

Anyway, I had three bananas, three rotis, and icecream. I am feeling so good now. :D

What comprised your diet?

IOW, what did you eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and what were you drinking over that 48 hours?

Constipation can occur, give it a couple of days it should go away. In the meantime, try to increase your fiber intake and drink lots of water. You are starving because you are probably not eating enough. Remember, on atkins you do NOT count calories. Eat till you are satisfied. If you get tired of chicken you can also have pork, fish. Did you cut out caffeine? That could be why you are getting headaches, those will go away in a day or 2. Give the diet at least a week before you quit.

Constipation is a common side-effect but most people feel more invigorated even after 48 hrs.

And, did you greatly lower your caffeine intake? The headaches could be from caffeine withdrawal.

You should really be drinking a LOT of water each day, too (about 1/2 gallon, at least)

It's not a diet...it's a whole way of changing the way you eat, permanently.

I'm up to 40g of carbs at this point and am maintaining my weight but I haven't run in about a month. I've dropped a pant size over the 2 months since I started and I don't really feel fatigued during the day anymore. Just went to the Dr. the other day for allergies and my blood pressure was great and, according to their scale, I've lost about 13 lbs.

I had only half cup of coffee today. I have been drinking water all day.

I know the feeling.... I've been on the diet for a little over 2 months now, and whenever I have carbs, I have to make a run for the border! I guess its not so bad - I've lost about 25 pounds!

Sounds like you're suffering more from caffeine withdrawal than any side effect of Atkins.

Friend of mine used to work cust. svc years ago. He'd down several Dr. Peppers each day. But, he noticed, after a while, that he'd have bad headaches on Thursdays and Fridays. Those were his off days and he drank maybe one soft drink while at home. He worked on cutting out caffeine completely.

Myself, I can count on one hand the # of caffeinated soft-drinks I've had in the last 2 months. I'll opt for Diet Sprite if I don't have water.

I had to quit for those reasons too. I did lose 7 pounds the first week or so but the constipation was unbearable. I did not starve though.

I take it you're indian, so let me first tell you some things. If you eat the healtheir indian food, you should be fine. Have some dals, subjes (spelling?), etc. with rotis each day. As for losing weight, exercise more.

Oh yeah, I didn't read the whole thing so if its already said or a reason against it, just ignore this post.

I also used to drink a cup of coffee per day before I started Atkins, but I got hit hard with headaches for 3 days. I knew what to expect though so it didn't really get me concerned about my health. I knew that my body wanted something that it expected everyday, but I refused to give in.

Also, how about eating a lot of fish? If you are having the runs, stop eating cheese or any dairy products.

Well, not EXACTLY the same as Atkins, but my wife and I started on the Protien Power plan 2 weeks ago.

I have dropped 11lbs, but I miss my carbs (bye bye pasta and breads :( )

I am allowed 30 per day in my "Intervention Phase"

Ever tried the low-carb bake mix or low-carb pasta?

The bake mix isn't so good but the pasta wasn't bad.

I lost 40 pounds, 4 waist sizes in two months while on Atkins. I quit afterwards though.. I couldn't stand eating chicken, beef, pork, and eggs anymore.. not to mention I started work at Jamba Juice [one smoothie will kill your carb count]. Since then, I've maybe regained about 15 pounds, but the waist size is still the same. Working on a better exercise regime to go through and just cutting out soda, chips, etc. from my diet to hopefully meet my goals.

I've lost 75 pounds on Atkins in just over 4 months. I don't care how many naysayers pop into this thread and say it's poppycock, because it ain't. If you can stick to it, it WILL work for you.
