4790k heatsink popping\clicking noise.

Hi. My cpu heatsink making weird single popping\clicking noises in both situations. When i start to run a game ( heating up ) and after exiting games ( cooling down ).
This usually happens as the system is coming out of load or going into load.
After a while when i am under load, its quiet, without noises. Is this normal or not?
And yes i am sure not cables hitting to fan blades of cpu.
Also i tried Prime95 and i cant reproduce ticking. Its always before gaming or at starting gaming. Any ideas?
And yes i am sure its not coming from GPU .

It sounds like LCD TV making clicking/cracking sounds.

I am using 4790k with STOCK box cooler and my gpu is Ichill 980 Ti Oc 3x Ultra. Gpu is with triple fans, that blowing hot air to cpu.

The heatsink is a piece of metal. The fan attached to it is making noise as it spins up and down. Ball-bearings in the fan? Pop it out and shake it up, clean it maybe, see how that goes.

ut why its not happening after or before Prime 95? ( 100% load of cpu ) . Its only after or at starting games. Can somebody explain me this?

Not sure about P95 vs. games but if sound is definitively coming from HSF then it must be fan. Eliminate fan before moving onto other possibilities. Should just be able to disable CPU fan speed control wherewhere in the BIOS so it will have constant speed (or different fan header possibly will give constant rate).

I've never heard an LCD TV make a click or crack sound.

I have. Not all HDMI audio works right, some times there is cabling or handshake issues, or most likely driver issues, that can cause audio discontinuities, when starting or stopping audio streams.

P95 heats up your CPU, but not your GPU.

Games heat up your GPU.

The noise is related to games.

You obviously need to RMA your video card...

Seems like a totally normal and obvious thermal expansion noise. Same thing happens to car engines (radiators) or baseboard heaters as they heat up and cool down.

Perhaps when the game starts, perhaps it has a loading screen that is easy to render, so it renders at very high frame rates that cause coil whine.

Are you able to limit your framerate, to see if the noise goes away when you start the game? There might be a way to set the framerate limit to something like 60 FPS or whatever.

Why would you torture a 4790K with a stock heatsink via Prime95? Those AVX extensions will cause it to heavily heat up and stress the CPU and mobo.
