4770k overclock failing

I am trying to oc my cpu to 4200mhz. I have deliddid my cpu and am using MX4 TIM. Right now with manual vcore at 1.235 and cpu cache voltage at 1.150 I still get blue screen stop 124 error not even 3 minutes into the prime95 blend test.

I am not trying to do a crazy overclock here. My temps are in the mid 60's. How can I go about getting my oc stable?

Your MB? I thought almost every 4770K can do at least 4.2.

You may simply have a bad chip. Try 4.1 GHz and/or 1.25V....

your OC settings are pretty off to get a BSOD that quickly

have you tried running P95 for many many hours yet on Stock Default settings to see if it does a 124 stop error?

Might help if you list your system specs.

On another note why did you delid before testing out the chip. Seems more logical to test the chip first and if you only have temp issues then delid. Doing it this way a person has the option of just flipping the duds.

Do you have an "offset" setting for vcore instead of "manual"? If so, try +.20 volt for an Adaptive VCore..

Too early to tell still. Guess we'll have to wait for an update to see. Might just be some silly uEFI setting(s) causing the issue.

Lets make sure all your hardware is good. Put stock clocks in BIOS and let us know how your rig is running. Then slowly overclock. I believe 4Ghz is free. Anything above you need a bump in voltage. For 4Ghz + you raise the voltage and keep the RAM in check. 1.30v voltage should get you to 4.2Ghz

Let us know idle and load temps as well. gl

I agree. 0x124 could mean anything. Without any information about other BIOS settings or system specs, there's no point in speculating.

Delidding is really only useful above 1.25V, though. Lower voltages won't produce enough heat to make it necessary.

What about your event log? Are there WHEA_Logger event messages, and if so what do they reference?

Just for comparison, my 4770K requires 1.26 cache voltage to remain stable at 4.2Ghz. If you really want that OC then you can try 1.20v and see if that works for you, but keep it under 1.3v.

If you see WHEA event logs referencing cache hierarchy errors then you need to raise the cache voltage. Delidding won't help a bad chip since high temps aren't the problem.
