I'm helping a friend build a PC and I have been looking at the 4770. He wants a mid-tower so I want to make sure that its not pushing hot air around the case.

Every time I look at a review of the 4770 its got a nice dualslot rear exhaust cooler, but the only one I can find online is from XFX at mwave, and its not available until 5.31

Anyone know of any 4770's available with rear exhaust cooling, or any after market rear exhaust coolers that will work with the 4770?

Thanks

I think that media center edition (with the dual slot blower) and the extra caps might make a really good Overclocking edition card. Of course, by the time ATI lets that happen Nvidia will probably have some really good budget 40nm products also.

As long as you have a decent case with a decent front intake fan (120mm+) you really dont have to worry about these exhaust design coolers. I simply don't understand the obsession with them. I guess it stems from it sounding good logically, however most of these coolers simply aren't that efficient to begin with. yes, they won't dump as much heat directly into the case, but your GPU won't run cooler. And as I said before, as long as you have decent airflow setup the heat dumped into the case won't be there for long anyways...

I have an Accelero S1 on a 4850 and can run it "passively" thanks to my front intake...

don't most of these coolers designed to output hot air outside the computer generally louder? I personally like my MSI 4830's quiet heatsink and fan, but then again, I have an Antec 900.

It's actually kinda odd turning my computer on and not hearing my x1950xt screaming to life. XD

where it vents doesn't really have an effect on volume. even with the slots in the back sealed off, you'll hear the fan through the other vents in your case.

my evga 8800 exhausts kinda towards the hard drives, but with a wide open 120mm fan in the front and fans in the top and back, it doesn't stay there. if raising the case temp a 2-3*C is a problem for you, your case is already too hot.

not that i wouldn't opt for the dual slot cooler if i could get it. it's just not a deal breaker.

I used to think that dual slot coolers that exhausted hot air out the back would really help keep my case cooler, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I used to have an X1900XT with such a cooler, but it was loud as hell and could barely keep the card from hitting triple digit temperatures without getting almost unbearably loud. My 4850 now has a fan that exhausts right into the case, but it's dead silent and keeps the card at 35-55C. Cards that exhaust out the back don't necessarily even keep the case cooler.

The 4850 exhausts heat into the case, but it keeps the rest of the case cooler than any of the dual slot cards.
