What ever happened to the Hyped ATI 4770?

This card was supposed to replace the 4830 ... yet I have trouble finding 4770's and no trouble finding 4830's.

Just curious really.

Process issues on 40nm.

Same reason why we don't have next-gen GPUs out yet.

consider the the 4850 a free upgrade, since it's been priced at or below 4770 retail since that card was released.

I think AMD halted production on it. It was only intended to be limited release just to get a 40nm part out there. AMD is saving all it's wafer orders for a top to bottom DX11 launch and are stockpiling. Hey, it's wishful thinking, but I don't think TSMC is STILL having as many probs with 40nm. It's been a long while now. Enough time to work out the bugs in the process to at least get production going.

Production isn't halted afaik. But they are only releasing very small amounts. When they launched they released some 40k units, just to get in the spotlight. After that, they only release limited amounts, to make it look real ;)
