i7 will be better utilized in the future. If you're a big gamer I'd do it, more and more games will take advantage of more threads.
 
Why not go for the 4670k now, and when broadwell comes out he can get one of those. He can take that $70 he saved, and see how the new chips perform relative to what he has.
