Check out this article at "The Inquirer" ...

... gawd - not only a 460W PSU, but also yet another standard. Couldn't they have made life easier & just used ATX12V as well?

460 watts ... gordon bennett.

AND it will have 8 fans ... 8 FANS ... so much for a "quiet" machine. Pfff ... that's some DP system indeed. Geez - the term "overkill" comes somewhat to mind. How hot is that thing going to be if it will need THAT MANY? Urm ... how on earth does one *FIT* 8 fans? I can get 4-6 in rather easily, but 8 that is going a bit far...

There's definately a lot of improvement to be done there then...

All of a sudden, the idea of that system has lost a lot of attraction it may have had to me...

I agree, shathal. They should just make ONE standard and stick to it. As for the fans, a lot of people mod their case to fit 8+, so I'm sure that isn't too much of a problem. However, I choose not to modify my cases. I LOVE my Antec SX1030B and I have a hard time finding that this case can't cool that board and dual CPUs down. A lot of people don't like to pay premium price for Intel CPUs, but this just goes to show AMD sometimes can take more cooling and always more power, which can compensate for the less cooling and power needed for Intel CPUs. No flames intended here folks, just saying what's on my mind.

I'm sure these dual TBirds are quite fancy, but I am willing to admit, I don't need anywhere the computing power of those things at this time. Nor do I need a heater in my room during summertime. Winter months would be nice, though, but the machines I have heat it up just fine. :D

Try "8 fan headers". Not 8 fans. This is a workstation/server class board designed with 64bit PCI and dual onboard Ultra160 SCSI (can you say 30 SCSI drives?) and even dual LAN connections

The market Tyan is going after this board will be willing to take the plunge and consider a new powersupply not a problem. 50% of these boards will probably end up with 1GB or more RAM shoved into them.

And if I find ANYONE running Win98 or ME on one of these board I will KILL THEM REPEATEDLY.

Finally was able to check out the page.

460W is the budget for two 1.8GHz Athlons, a 75W vidcard, two SCSI HDs, and even 75W for the 4GB of RAM (as well as all kinds of goodies)

so what? I have the ENERMAX 650 WATT, and run my server case with 12 fans, who cares about the PSU?
What counts is stability at high frequencies, and for that you do not need 450 Watt.

650 Watts?

WTF are you running? An internal army of HDD's? Did you actually calculate your power-budget that you needed this much or did you just decide to go for overkill?

Either way, the main point was that WTF couldn't AMD & Intel sort their act together out & agree on ONE standard of PSU's. Would be so much nicer a world...

And I doubt that anyone buying this thing would consider setting up an SP OS on it. And I do know how much mem/HDDs do go into Workstations, I work with big servers for a living, thank you very much.

Either way, the 460W requirement makes me doubt that they can scale the CPU's a lot further without melting the cases around them, really ... Palomino at 20% less heat is nice, but how long is that going to last ... the Athlon is already running at pretty much max heat. Hmmm ... they definately need to sort out their CPU-cooling somewhat...
