Has anyone shot one? How was the recoil? Looks like its has a decent velocity, about 500 fps fast than the 44 mag and about 700 ft. lbs. more. Ruger makes the super redhawk in that caliber. Anyone have a redhawk, what's your inpression of it?

Redhawks are nice, one of the best selling big bore revolvers ever I think. The bigs ones are HEAVY though. It is not really your "take it out on the week and shoot it" gun. It is like a hunters gun... One guy I know how a .44 mag with a bigger barrel, really heavy. You can drop deer from really far away though. My uncle has a .44 mag S&W, it is also pretty nice. I prefer automatics but for revolvers they are both nice and fun to shoot. .44 mag in these is pretty tame really

The .454 casull recoil is going to be pretty bad... Not as bad as the S&W 500 or whatever it is but probably close. There is also a ruger .480 cartridge I believe, what a hunk of lead! big recoil on that as well. I've only see pics of the .454 being fired and the gun definately jerks way back and rolls back in your hands.

I have Super Redhawk Double Action 44 Mag and I love it. The gun is very accurate.

From what I've read about the 480 is that it kicks about 1/3 less than the .454. Not sure about the 500 S&W. They have a short ~4 inch version of the 500, that I would think would kick alittle. The bigger ~9 inch barrel kicks slightly more that a 44 because it weigh so dang much. The performance center version of the 500 even has sling attachments.

did you get the 7 1/2" or 9 1/2" barrel?
