This may be worth a shot. Buy the QMS/Minolta Magicolor 2200 at your local Compusa now for $1299.99 with your Amex Blue.
Mail in the $300 rebate coupon (good til 12/31/01).
Sunday, get a $300 refund when the $999 ad appears.
You will surely see many ads in the coming weeks for $999. Staples already has a coupon.
When you find the ad, do the Amex bit for $250 - Your receipt will be $1299.

Looks like $450 to me.

The only problem with this is amex will see that you've been credited the $300 difference from compusa, therefore, it'll be tough to PM.

That seems like fraud to me, since the price before rebates is $999. You're talking about using the reciept that you paid $1299 to use as a pricematch? Yep, smells fishy. But hey, if you want to pull a scam then more power to you.

This is a scam since you will be scamming money from AMEX that you will already be getting back from CompUSA via the PM.

Is this any more of a scam than matching the price before the rebate to a place that doesn't offer the rebate? If item costs $200 and you are getting $100 in rebate, its real cost is $100. Yet people still PM this to someone selling item for $140 and getting both rebate and PM.

Buy it now, get the $300 rebate, and PM after Sunday. That's $699. Still a good deal and NOT a scam!

The $300 is a price break and not a rebate so the AMEX PM will not work for the following reasons.

1. If you buy now, CompUSA is going to credit you $300 back to your AMEX when you PM. AMEX will use the credit in your PM request.
2. AMEX BVG checks the original transaction for credits back to the original transaction for 30 days on BVG claims. Even if your claim is paid.
3. AMEX will deny your PM because CompUSA already has heir own PM policy and the price drop is within thier published PM policy.

AMEX BVG has been cracking down on this buy one day/PM the next behavior in the past month. The only way this would work is if the $300 was a rebate and you were able to PM next month after CompUSA's PM policy has expired.

Using the AMEX pricematch while doing a rebate is just as much of a scam as what this thread is proposing. Both of these scams are slightly more of a scam than people using the AMEX pricematch with Regency Camera and the like. It's pretty sad that the mod's of this forum allow such posts to remain.
