Wireless file transfer is a pain in the arse. Kinda amazing yes, but a pain nonetheless. I went back to 100MBit wired LAN at my new apartment and now have to spend time tucking the cable under the trim and carpet all the way up the stairs. This sucks.

wireless will always be slower than the wire

wire is superior

1000BT is getting cheap enough for home use :D

agh you know thats not the problem. The problem is the sustained rate of the HD's. 100MBit is more then enough for normal use and file transfer.

i'm using 802.11b now for my home network on my laptop. if i need to transfer files i just find a cat5, plug it in to the network and do it that way.

btw shouldn't this be in the networking forum? :p

The theoritcal is 55mbps. The closer you are the better so I would move closer to the AP.

Hey can you have a wireless network without an *Access Point*? Just wondering as I was thinking you could do a straight 1 to 1 connection like using a cross over cable for a computer to laptop single connection.

I'm 3 ft away from my 802.11g ap and the highest I get is +- 20mbit

Why don't you just connect it for the transfer and then unconnect it when you are done.

In that case, you just suck at the (wireless) internet.

Yeah, we have wireless and wired connections in every room so we're set. Instead of transferring that file(if its a movie), why not just stream it over? Thats what I do using our laptop...
