need to upgrade my fileserver, but this old 440ZX/66 chipset board hangs when I put new 120GB drive on. I checked the jumpers and tried different settings (CS, MA, none). Futzed in the BIOS re large disk support (DOS, Other). Put on Auto for recognize. What is the issue?

Btw, this is a old HP4450 running basic Linux. thanks for input.

If that's a pre 6/99 Award BIOS core, then there's a bug that hangs POST when an IDE drive is larger than 32G. Not much you can do, short of putting this drive onto a PCI IDE interface card that brings its own HDD BIOS.

thanks peter, that 32gig limit does ring a bell now that you say it. Too bad my SI0680 is win-only. :+(

thanks again! cheers!
