440LX supports what processors?

What is the best processor I can put in a 440lx motherboard? It is an older pentium II gateway computer. Do these support pc100 ram? or only pc66 (current memory)? Thanks!

well only PC 66 and 66 FSB so low grade Pentium 2's and Celerons. I have a 440 LX board and its still working with a 400mhz Celly. I dont know if you can buy a converter to go to higher than 533 celly or not. There were 66 fsb cellies up to 800 I believe but dont expect anything to work above 533 mhz.

If it only supports 66mhz FSB then that means only PII 233 - 300. PII 350 was the first 100mhz FSB Pentium II

LX is the ientry level for the Pentium 2's and Celerons.
Supports 233-333 Mhz P2
Supports 233-400 Mhz Celeron

440LX is a good overclocker if the mobo maker put jumpers that support higher front side bus, and multipliers. It unofficially supported PC100, most manufacturers had the option to put it in there. Since your PC is a gateway and is most likely propietory it wont give you the option to overclock the system bus. If you want, buy one of these Power Leap Adapters to use a 800 P3 on that old machine. You can go higher (1.4 Tualiton Celery) if you can somehow get to 100 FSB. Good luck man. 🙂

It supports Celeron up to 533. I upgraded a Gateway PII233 to a PPGA 533.

The 440LX chipset does not support 100MHz bus--unless you can get your AGP card to run at 100MHz. The LX doesn't have dividers like in the BX chipset. The Celeron 533 non A is the fastest you can run. Get a new/different board with faster processor, faster bus, faster drive interface, faster AGP interface. Just faster RRR.
