My sister has a PII 333 on a 440 BX Mobo
We built it out of scraps mostly

What PIII chip will it take? Slot 1 right?

Or do I have to get a new mobo?

check the manufacturer's website to see what the board supports. if it can get a core voltage of 1.65(i think thats what the coppermines run on) and can handle a 100mhz fsb, then you should be able to put in a new PIII, slot 1(unless you get a slotket and put a Socket370 PIII in it)

Here's the thing, I dont know the manufacturer. I looked at the board but didn't see. How else can I tell?

Examine the board carefully, all manufacturers place the model and their name on the board, you may have to look between the PCI slots.

Yep, between PCI slots, on the BIOS chip, or on a sticker on the bottom PCI/ISA slot

In order to run a p3, it will probably need a bios update.

The Sandra utilities can usually tell you the manufacturer's name. You can use the freeware part. Download it from http://www.3bsoftware.com, install and use the "System summary" and "Mainboard information" modules. They'll probably give you both the manufacturer and model number.

With a Slotket with voltage control, you can run a P3 more than likely... I had success running a 700E flip-chip on an ASUS-133 slotket @ 1008mhz on an ABIT BX6r2 board.

Good advice here already -- you'll probably have to flash your BIOS to the latest version to get the higher multipliers -- but a BX board is still a great solution.
