I am trying get a new PSU, a seasonic.

I am just wondering if 430W is enough for my system.

AMD64 3000+ (no oc)
1GB PC3200
DVD Burner
CD Burner
Floppy Drive
6800GT Pci-E
2 ATA HDD
2 of 120mm Fans.

Thanx

430W is fine as the system stands

If you plan to add a few more harddrives or upgrade to a dual core processor in the future a 500W would probably be the better choice.

450 😛 or 500 was what I was going to suggest. I always go for overkill on my power supplies, because a system that I built, and got a power supply that was just about 50 watts over what was required, it kept restarting. Yours requires maybe 350-380 watts, by my quick guess, so 450 might be better.

If that's something like an antec 430W, it is more than enough. Most people in here will reccomend a 500W PSU, but in reality, a 430W Antec True Power will power an FX-55 with dual 6800Ultras and 4 HDDs (although with that setup, your PSU wont have much room for upgrades). If you dont believe me, look at the A8N-SLI power requirements on the ASUS website.

I have a Kill-A-Watt Meter on my PSU plug and I never draw over 200 watts at startup (using an S12 380w PSU). This system draws just over 100watts at idle

A8V, 3500+, 1gb pc3200, 2x160gb sata, 2 x optical, 9800Pro

Dont even suggest 500W PSUs. 430W Antec, Seasonic or any other quality brand will be more than enough already. I'm Building a 3500+, 1gb ram, 3 hdds + DVD burner and an ATI 800XL and 380W will be enough for me.

That 430W Seasonic has 29 combined amps on its dual 12V rails, which is more than enough for the system you've described.

430 Watts should be more than enough for most systems as long as the power is distributed properly among the rails. That size of PSU should have at least 25 Amps on the +12 rail these days.

Calculator

My system (look in sig), would use a max of 276w if every single component of my system was running at 100% load (which would never happen BTW).

Generally an overpowered switching PSU will usually be operating in the vicinity of 50% load or less which is outside of its most efficient output range, which is usually somewhere around 75% load. So an overpowered PSU will cost more when you buy it and continue to drain your wallet as long as you use it. A properly chosen PSU could easily use 15%-30% less power from the power company when operating at its most efficient than one operating at half power or less - both putting the same power into the load. And PSU efficiencies vary all over the lot from 65% to 85% (some of the new Seasonics, etc.) The 330 Watt S12 Seasonic could actually cover most needs just fine.
