I say we conquer their lands and kill the natives and claim it as our own..weve never done that before so it would be a learning experience...

15 people shot in Chicago over the weekend. Airstrikes in Mexico and Chicago are the answer, obviously.

Another win for the War On Drugs!

Yup, I'm not sure the cartels will go away if things were made legal here, but I think their power and finances would be severely crippled. Just like I have no doubt that marijuana is still bought and sold from one person to another illegally where it is now legal, a black market would probably still exist. But it'd be so much smaller, if the profit margins are squeezed out by cheap and easily available legal alternatives, there'd be much less reason for drug cartels to exist. The profit just wouldn't be there. But the reality is that drug laws aren't about our safety or the good of society as much as they are about our government having more power and authority over citizens.

the demand from American druggies for their "recreational drugs of choice" is the cause of this and nearly every other violence related problem in Mexico.

So you'd legalize...typical liberal hippy socialist.

So the answer is for the US government to legalize, and as a result, condone the use of dangerous drugs by its citizens? Funny as it may be, I actually think that would work. But then they would be stabbing their big pharma friends in the back, and that would be really mean. We wouldn't want our government to be mean, right?

I was mostly joking to tweak LGBT; but seriously, the time may have passed for that. The cartels have diversified into Mining, (legal) Agriculture, Telecom and other legitimate businesses, so there's a real likelihood that they would survive even if they lost the illegal drug revenue.
