crYnOid,

What song are you talking about? There's no midget sun on the album. Tool has not gone soft though ;) Tool's been my favorite group for about 7 years now, and I don't think they have, or plan to go soft anytime soon ;) Talking about the slower version of Pushit? That song STILL rocks, I commend them for experimenting and changing a great song to be still great in a totally different respect. Besides, what other hard rock band do you know that uses tabla drums? Tool owns, the end.

Why does it matter if they change there music? If a band wants to stay around for any length of time then they have to evolve there sound from time to time..

"Evolving" music didn't pan out too good for The Smashing Pumpkins....

I've never heard that Midget Son song, but I think the whole Salival cd is great! Haven't had the chance to check out the DVD yet. Can't wait for the new album in April.

I wonder how many it sold! I don't think boxsets get reported on billboard's charts, but I'd bet this is one of the fastest/biggest selling box sets in history.

first off, Tool was never really hard in the first place. I mean, in the traditional "metal" sense. Secondly, Maynard and the guys are more "artistic" than your standard piece-of-sh!t-sounds-like-limpbizkit/korn-band-of-the-week. I have been a tool fan since the beginning and have always thought other tool fans listened to tool for the quality of the music, not just the hardness. Man I guess I am wrong.

Also crYnOid, how old are you? Just out of curiosity. I have a theory regarding people who like heavy music and age, and would be interested to see if you fit the bill.

Despite Tool being my favorite band hands down, I didn't find too much creativity in Opiate (Besides the lyrics). All I found on that EP was heaviness/hardness. It could be that that's why Opiate is my least favorite of their albums.

sparkle I am 21 :)

divinemartyr Push*t is great, I don't mind that it is slower, but it still sounds great:).

I said Midget Sun was on Salival because I found it while searching napster for Salival songs (can't get it locally:(), and it had Salival in it's name. I also haven't looked to hard to find the track list. Try searching napster for it, it is very strange, yet still funny:D

WTF!!!! Push*t is a band word!!!!! or rather the bad word bit.

There is no "midget sun" on Salival. I have it right here, and it's not on there, trust me.

Just because Tool has a different live version of Pushit does not mean that they have gone soft. I have a bootleg of that version from 98 or something like that, so that version has been around for a couple of years. Tool has not gone soft, not like it has ever been very heavy, but it still rocks.
BTW - I like that live version of Push it so much better than the original version. I find it so much more emotional, showing a different side of Maynard.
If you want a soft version of Tool then listen to APC, because I'm sure they'll be rocking as hard as ever on their new album coming out.

harpomx -
Opiate was their first album. As time went on the band evolved, and so did their music. Opiate is not my favorite album, but I still love all the songs. They're especially great if you're pissed off, because it's good "being angry" music ;)

hmm.. everyone here seems to be raving about the newer slower Push It, but I couldn't get into it for some reason... it was as if I was waiting for a climax that would never happen... and then towards the end he reverts back to the original style.

i haven't listened to it since then, mostly because i don't want to be dissapointed.. i'm hoping this is one of those situations where it kinda grows on you as you listen to it more and more

TOOL is the most artistic band out there since K.C. killed himself. They have their own sound which is more than I can say for most of todays music. TOOL rocks.

The softer new version of push*t is from the 98 ozzfest tour. I heard them perform it, I personally love the song.
