4200+ X2 and Win 2000Pro

Suddenly my Win XP is not genuine and Microsoft claims it is a bootleg copy. No way I am paying $149 to become genuine when I bought a genuine retail boxed OS XP already, still have reciept.

In any case I am going back to Win2K Pro, does that OS supports AMD 4200+ X2 processors ?

If what you say is true, call them. 2K should support the X2 but I doubt it will perform as well.

Why wouldn't it perform as well?

A lot of the patches for the X2 I believe are only for XP. I may be wrong, but I remeber reading a review where XP performed better than 2K. If dude didn't use those "special versions 😉" of XP he wouldn't have any problems.

Win2K will support it, but you won't be able to install the X2 driver, so some games may require you to set affinity.

🙂 It happens. It happened to a friend with a brand new and shinny HP laptop 🙂 He had to call HP and he got a new cd and license but it happens 🙂

I would call M$ about your problem....if what your telling us is true.

I called MS and they swear I have a bootleg copy of XP. They even emailed me all the case logs. I am going back to Staples with my box, CD and receipt and demand a refund and an explanation of why they are selling non-genuine software to consumers

Try googling Non Genuine Windows Xp and there are thousands of people who have phony copies of XP according to MS

Was it the Windows Genuine Advantage tool that said you were bootleg?

Nothing better than relying on a piece of software to be absolute and be right every time.

take wga off your machine(delete the files in safe mode and clean registry..not hard) and don't download it again...u really can do without it and still get decent updates. MS should've just given u a new key since u bought it from the store.
