42-bit color scanner

What's the point of having a 42-bit color scanner when your monitor/video card can only display 32-bit color? What am I missing?

Which would require a printer capable of printing 42-bit color too?

Edit: The printers I've seen are usually rated by dpi, not color. How do you know if a printer can print 42-bit color?
