I am saving up for a TV for my mother and want to get a better idea on whats what with LCD HDTVs

Price range is really not an issue. What is the latest and greatest in the 42-46" size range? She enjoys Basketball as much as I do so I guess a low ms response time would be better, right? Also, doesn't the Hz make a difference? I see they have 120 and 240 out. A 240hz screen would be better for sports right?

If anyone can fill me in on what to look for when making a purchase, that'd be great, thanks.

If you're going to be sports and action heavy, consider plasma over LCD. Even with the 120/240hz thing, plasma will be superior at handling action. I can't help but just feel like something's wrong when I watch one of the LCDs that runs at 120/240hz, it just doesn't look natural. The only real problem you'll have with the plasma is if you'll be watching it in a room where glare could be an issue.

Heard that back in the day; which gave them a bad rap. What do you know about them?

I'm just one person, 3 years with a Panasonic plasma and still (knocks on wood) going good. 42px60u is the model number.

See, this helps :) Helps to break the myth... The big story was if a pixel is bad, the entire thing has to be replaced ... er something like that. I thought that also applied to LCDs as well.

I'm just trying to get as much info as possible before we jump the gun. Thanks so far all! :)

Read avsforum... most of the plasma horror stories are just FUD that snowballed.
