On a windows 98 box...

Celeron 300
416mb of ram (valid?)

Ie doesn't have enough memory to run. Counter Strike and all other programs on the machine run fine. Any ideas?

Thanks

That is possible. A stick of ram could be bad. I dont think its possible to have 416 mb of ram unless a stick is bad... This computer has been a real b&^%@! Just like its owner!

I suppose I will have to investigate that.. Any other standing theroys?

Maybe you have 3 DIMMs: 256 + 128 + 32. It would be a weird memory configuration, but it would give you 416 mb of RAM. Check to see how much memory is free as you try to open IE. I'm guessing that it is a problem in the IE installation rather than a problem with the RAM.

Yeah 256+128+32=416. If a stick of memory is bad, it usually is still all detected lol. But try memtest, and then just reformat that old piece of sh!t and reinstall 98SE. Sometimes Win98 just gets all messed up and starts having wierd problems. That calls for a reinstall. I think of running Win98 like a car. Every 3000 miles (win98 = 3-4 months), u need an oil change (win98 = reinstall)!

It's a fresh install... I just guess I need to reload IE. It's being done right now. That is.. if it can be done properly.

By the end user.

No luck. I guess I will have to download mozilla on to her P.C. and try the memtest. Maybe she will decide she likes it better.. Although I think shes likely to still bitch and moan until I do figure it out. At least i get to massage her feet while i think.

Unless you have a Volvo (like me :)) and that's like WinXP so you don't need a lot of maintenance.

Please explain why you feel the need to reinstall your OS every 3-4 months? Is this honestly becasue you think it's like maintanence on a car?

Because (with win98) it begins to run like crap if you don't do it.
