I have an asus a7v266 mother board. Right below the CPU slot there is another chip which has it's own fan to it. For a pic see:

http://www.asus.com/products/mb/socketa/a7v266/enlarge.htm

On that picture it's the green/white fan with a black and red wires going to it.

Anyways, this fan stopped working for me recently, which now causes the system to overheat and instantly reboot upon that. I'mtrying to find a replacement for this. Looking over numerous stores, find a fan like this one is proving rather challenging. If someone can find me a fan to fit that, I would be enormously gratefull.

Thanks,
Oleg

I can't tell from that pic (plus yours could be differnt, anyway), is the heatsink under that fan -which is the northbridge chipset- clipped to the motherboard or epoxied or otherwise held to the chip?

From what it looks like on top I'd say it's clipped to the motherboard probably. The heatsink, per say, is actually more of just a plastic case (no radiator, etc). It's held in place by what looks like two springs. On the upper side of the motherboard the springs end in round plastic tops; I haven't seen what it looks like on the other side of the motherboard yet.

It ought to come off quite easily, then. Try replacing it with this. It'd be easier and about the same price as just switching the fan.

Yeah, it came off fairly easily (just had to take out the entire motherboard to get the stuff on the other side clipped off :(). Thanks for the link you posted, but it appears they're out of stock on it (I would assume, that's the reason the Buy button is not there)? Other links?
