HOT PM Deal at staples, but I just pulled this one off.

Pricematched onvia.com item QMP40000AS-A to Staples Item IM1222763

Brough it down to $172.98

Used a Staples.com coupon, of the $40 off $150 kind

Brings it to $132.98 + Taxes

Quantum offers a $40 rebate on this drive:
Rebate Form Here

Which brings it down to about $104 after rebates. Not bad for a 7200 rpm drive, udma/100, and 8.5ms seek time.

Pretty darn good deal there. Quantum came through with the $30 rebate on my 30gb Quantum LM+ drive earlier this year.

Just FYI, the Quantum AS series 40gb is actually a decent bit slower than the older Quantum LM+ series even though the LM+ has lower density and only supports ata66. Check Storage Review for the details if you want.
This is still an excellent drive. I have owned several LM+ series Quantum's and they more than make up for some of the crappy older drives quantum made several years back.

I'm not saying these aren't the same drive, they likely are, but where does it say on the Staples site that this is the Quantum AS? I don't see ANY part numbers anywhere. Didn't your CSR question whether or not they were teh same drive?

I am wanting to buy a new harddrive but I am undecided about the one posted here and this one I found over at Techbargains:

"IBM 45GB 75GXP $141, Dec 28

Buy.com has the IBM 75GXP 7200 RPM 45 GB drive for $171.95 - $30 coupon = $141.95 shipped. (Thanks Jon) (cut and pasted from techbargains)

Can someone tell me which is the better bargain and or the better hard drive.

Thanks in advance

The IBM 75GXP is definitely better than the Fireball AS. Just go check out Storage Review.

I'm just saying performance-wise, I'm not saying its a better deal. You have to decide if the extra performance is worth the extra money.

Oops, nevermind.

It seems that the 30 off 150 at Buy.com has expired prematurely. So it looks like I will be going for the Quantum

EDIT

Just called Buy.com and their coupon servers are down. The nice CSR applied the $30 coupon with free shipping and I got the IBM 45 GB for $137!!!

Good price but I think I'll wait till CompUSA has another sale on the Western Digital 45GB ATA66 for $99. I did this deal back around Columbus Day.

It actually comes to 173.98-40-40=$93.98. I guess this should include shipping as Onvia gives free ground shipping, but you never know.
-Carl

PS: Actually, it came 10 $140 after tax. So after the MIR it's $100. Sweet

Can you spare a Staples.com coupon code for the offer that you are referring to: $40 off a $150 or more purchase. Thanks

Damn, none of my local Staples carry any kind of Quantum drives. But bump for the hot deal anyway.

You are suppose to do it over the phone to get the pricematch, as this drive is a special order part.

How did you do a price match and how did you get a staples.com coupon? Cause I think I'm gonna buy one.

Staples is not listed as one of the "quantum Authorized MArketers" in the US is it ? Just reading my rebate form and wondering. Also, I used 2 30 off 150 coupons today -- go look at other web sites :)

If it's the new Quantum Fireball series then it's a good drive but not as speedy as the IBM. If you can get a better deal on the IBM GXP then go for that but the Quantum is no slouch by any means.. :)

Just call Quantum this morning & they said Staples is NOT one of their authorized dealer, so therefor, no mail-in rebate if you buy from Staples.

Below is the list of "authorized Quantum" dealers. I found this list on the Quantum website. If Buycom still has the $30 off $150, you can get an excellent deal from them. Of course getting your rebate from Quantum requires great patience.

Quantum Online Store
Buy.com
CDW
Club Mac/Pacific Business Systems
Creative Computers
Outpost
Insight
Tiger Direct
ThorTek
Fry?s Electronics
Megahaus
Micro Warehouse
