Does Staples price-match without considering a competitor's shipping charge? (Showing 9.95 in my EMS shopping cart.)

Staple's Manufacturers SKU: ST0154000U
Googlegear's SKU: 5T040H4

The specs look the same though.

You guys are right, Staples is supposed to hit you for shipping (which is only fair).

But there are always people who call in until they get a rep who doesn't charge... which I personally don't do. So plan on more.

Staples WILL charge for overnight shipping if the company it PM's against charges for shipping. Staples CSR's will say that's part of the Staples perk is overnight shipping if they have it in stock (1 day delivery, which by the way both of these items are available as 1 day delivery).
The hard drive is:
150.99 + 14.99 overnight shipping = 165.98
ATA card is 41.00 plus 44.00 standard UPS overnight shipping (check out this shipping ripoff) for 85.00
Total is 250.98-30 off Staples coupon = 220.98 + 17.68 (8% tax for me in CA)=238.66
Now get your 50 rebate for 188.66.

The better deal is just buy it at Staples.
179.95 for HD
49.98 for ATA card
229.93 minus 30 off coupon for 199.93
plus 8% tax of 15.99 = 215.92
minus 50 rebate = 165.92
Still, not a hot deal, sorry.

I just checked and the HD at Googlegear is not the same HD so they will not PM. Plus, even if you did get the CSR to PM you wouldn't get the rebate from Maxtor. The Googlegear kit starts with 5T040H4 and the rebate is only good on kits starting with ST01, ST04, ST06, V06, K01 or K04 to qualify for the rebate. Sorry to crap on this, I was just trying to clear up a little confusion. Keep trying Hgabriel. ;)

By the way, the drive at Google Gear is the new Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 60 40GB drive with 20GB platters. Not the DiamondMax Plus 40 or 45.

First deal posted for me. Just fudge it with the nice CSR from Staples named Clarice.

The title needs to be modified. This deal cannot be had for ~100.00.

It's $151 on googlegear, so minus $30 when Pm with staples and you get $121. You buy the controller for $50 and minus $50 and it's free. So it's still $121. How did you get $100?

Unless you get a stupid CSR, you can't pricematch these two drives because one comes with the screws and stuff while the other is bare.

Is all the hassle and frustration doing the pricematch dance (not to be confused with the antler dance) worth it? Especially if you are dealing with Staples?

I think he means the 40 GB ATA 100 HD for 149.99-50 rebate (SKU#279621) + Free ATA 100 adapter card (SKU#277884) which is 49.99 with a 49.99 rebate.
Cost is ~200 plus tax -99.99 in rebates for an approximate total cost of 116 after rebate. Problem is this drive is most likely the Maxtor/CompUSA brand which is 5400 RPM with a 1 year warranty. Still a good deal though.

A $50 rebate from compusa off of the drive? And another $49 off the $49 controller card?

Where's the $50 rebate the drive?

Both the PCI ATA 100 adapter card and the HD have mail-in rebates (separately I think) and they are most likely CompUsa rebates so the form would be in-store. To tell you the truth, the ad doesn't say what brand of ATA 100 card it is so, I wouldn't assume that it's a Maxtor because the Maxtor rebates are 50.00 not 49.99. If I go to CompUsa today I'll post exactly what brand we are talking about.

Both are from the compusa store? Not online? Compusa is very far from my house so an online one would be better. Is there an online one to print out?

I went to the CompUsa by my home and checked the SKU's for the items. The HD IS a retail Maxtor 40 GB but its 5400RPM. The ATA card IS a Maxtor ATA 100 PCI card. The rebate forms will be in the store tomorrow but I don't know if this can be purchased online with a rebate. The Maxtor rebate isn't a problem because this is their #2 promotion for this card and the purchase of the card and HD need to be made between Jan 1st 2001 and sometime near the end of March. The 50.00 rebate on the drive might be a CompUsa only rebate and more than likely it has to be purchased on Sunday or Monday to get the 50.00 rebate. You need to check the online CompUsa tomorrow and see if they offer the 50 rebate with purchase. Hope this helps.
