I know that win98 and ME and even possibly 2k had a problem w/ the deskstar.. something about shuting down too quickly for it. This would cause the HD to break very quickly..

I'm runing windows XP, and occasionaly, even though I shutdown the computer just fine, on bootup it runs scandisk.. and I remember this being the symptom for the other OS..

Can anyone confirm taht this is a problem even in XP? Is there patch that slows down the shutdown process just like there was for the other operating systems?

Have you been to windows update to look for the patch or searched for it on microsoft's website?

Also, I'm assuming your drive is the 75GXP model...

I believe the 45GB model had the worst failure rate out of them all, but that doesn't matter much.
