Normally around $160/month?
I have all electric appliances and my bill doesn't exceed $90/month. And the air conditioning has been on for a couple months straight. How can you have a $160/month bill on average?

Back in the winter, my house had a $1500 bill... damn electric heating and having a large farmhouse!

meh, if you lived in Australia, that would be a fairly normal bill, normally mine is around $580-600 during winter and $500ish the rest of the year

How big is your house? We have a 4-bed room, two story house.

My last electric bill was $140. I was happy. In our old house, it probably would have been at least $200-220.

Was it based on an estimated meter reading? Sometimes when they did not get a chance to read the meter, they bill you based on historic usage and when they take the actual reading next time, you'll be credited for the difference.

nah, just lack of competition means higher prices, we generally pay more for everything here, fuel, food, electricity, rego on cars etc, it cost me nearly $1000 just to register my car in june

This is why I have my hydro on a budget. The hydro company gives me a solid price to pay each month and I pay that and nothing more...

Sure - I get screwed in the spring and fall... but in the summer I can have my A/C cranked and in the winter my heat cranked and not worry about it at all!

Remember to take into account that electricity costs vary quit a lot from region to region. So just because the bill itself is much higher doesen't necessarily mean they used more electricity than you.

Our electric bill is 175$/mo, and our rate is about $0.08/kWh; cheap.

I pay around $.07/kWh, less if I had interruptible AC, which isn't worth it, IMHO.

That's pretty cheap. My 8 cent figure is after all taxes and fees, so in reality it's a little less.

Some places can be like 14 cents/kWh tho.. yikes.
