Hi,

My 1 year old sparkle 300w power supply burned up today. Wile toasting it used the "if i go down everyones going with me" phrase and took my brand new Athlon system with it. Toasted everything but my 256MB of memory (thank god).

So now i am going to buy a new 400w power supply. I am not sure what one to get. my choices are: Evernmax or Powermax. Both say they are AMD approved.

What are you recommedations? (only have $80-100 to burn)

Check Comp Geeks for the Leadman 400W ATX. It's only $61 and it's a solid powersupply. It has a 92mm fan for intake and an 80mm for exhaust. Both have nice shiny fan grills over them. I have one in my system and it's great.

350w enermax is $70cdn / $48usd
450w enermax is $120cdn / $82usd

You can find those power supply's at GetOverclocked, its a canadian store, but it ships to the US :)

If you want the ultimate ps check out Bigfoot Computers, on the 15th they'll have 650watt powersupply's! :D

Enermax without a doubt.

I just bought the 450W version a week ago and it is absolutely queit no noise at all. It has two 80 MM fans on it and my 60mm cpu fans make more noise.

It also has plenty of connectors and the fan on the PWS is positioned to draw heat away from the cpus so its vented out of the system as apposed to most power supplies which just suck air in.

I am looking at getting a InWin Q2000 server case. Dual 300W hotswappable PSU's included for $209. It is the same size as the Q500, but has a different front with a locking door!

"how many ide devices can u have on a 400watt" 400 if each takes 1 watt! I personally don't know, but it has more cables then mine (which has 4 cables for IDE/SCSI harddrives, and optical drives).

A very conservative estimate would be 20 IDE hard drives Kotchy, which would still leave 160W for the rest of your system, which is why no consumer really needs a 400W powersupply.

For customers with hi-end machines we usually use PcPowerCooling power supplies. A little expensive, but high quality.

God I'm sorry Techno....I'm not gonna recommend a power supply but your tale of your system going down is enough to scare me :(

Were there any signs that it was going down? Something like that would simply...infuriate me.

But anyways, if you ask me...well I just ordered an Enermax.

And the Enermaxes are 330 watt not 350 watt. Guys do the math :p

If you want an Enermax 330 go to Compucheap, Russ told me he would be getting some in Tuesday (tomorrow).

Hi guys thanks.

I ordered a new 400w Power supply. Should be here by friday. I don't need it that fast because 99.9% of my computer has to be send out in the next 2 days to get replaced.

I could have seen this coming. I went threw so many parts this year trying to get a stable system. I mean i tried like 10 different motherboards, 2 different chips (Intel and AMD) and so many other things and i just thought it was bad luck. Then clicking problem w/ my hard drive happened, and then my Radeon burned up, now the rest of my new system has gone with it... all because of that damn sparkle 300w power supply.

But funny enough, my old P3 500Mhz and Acer motherboard ran fine on it.

Now that most of my system is going back for exchange and that i have a new PS coming, there should be absolutly NO reason for my computer to fail again like it has been doing.

Yup..... 10...

From January till now i had:

For Athlon 600Mhz: K7M, K7Pro, K7V, KA7. None worked (w/ sparkle power supply) so i sold my athlon and went for a P3 700Mhz system

Motherboards for the P3 700 where: 2 CUV4X boards, VH6, P3V4X, 2 Gigabyte boards.

All had problems at boot up, either it didn't light up, or the board fried.

And now the latest victim a Athlon 1Ghz system.

Damn power supply.

Techno -

Did you not learn to recognize patterns in elementary school? The fact that you went through ten motherboards...didn't you ever think it was the power supply?

There's no excuse for that man except for incompetence. Argh...this aphalls me...are you not capable of basic pattern recognition? "hmm...I put in eight motherboards...they all fried...all of them were good motherboards and Asus has a <2% RMA rate...I wonder what will happen if I put in #9 *zzt* hmmm #10 *zzzt* hmmm I don't see a pattern here..."

Argh. Ten good sheets of 6-layer PCB - wasted.

I am not trying to start any flaming wars...

Being how the power supply worked with my P3 500Mhz system. No, I didn't *really* think about it. Because it DID work with that system. I just took the power supply out, tried the new board, had problems with it turning on and booting up, called techsupport, they said they would give me my money back. Put the power supply back in my P3 500 system and everything was fine.

As for school. I did sleep threw half of math class but..... If Power Supply in station A seems to work perfectly, yet motherboards from station B doesn't work with station A's Power supply but it is known that the Power supply from Station A works: the problem here is *__________*......... Hmmm. Thats a hard one.

As for ASUS, even before i had this power supply, I had 2 BX boards that had problems with the board its self. Before this Acer board, I had 2 P3B-F motherboards. The first one had a faulty AGP slot and the second one had USB problems. Kept the one with the USB problems and just loaded NT 4.0 and never cared since.

I will admit the K7 Pro did work ok, except for a few times it crashed in games, the main problem with it, was i ordered a new motherboard, the company sent me 1 that was an RMA from someone else.

1 main problem with the K7V i had was i had to rock the processor back and forth in the Slot to get the computer to fire up (yet it froze few minutes later).

I recently got new Antec 400W one (my old Antec 300W burned out on me either because of the load or just because it was its time). So far this new one works flawlessly for me and it is pretty quite too. I probably would get Evermax instead but I think paying $90 for just power supply is way too much. That's just my opinion.
