Hey all,
Quick update. To refresh memories - 4000+ San Diego on a Zalman 9500 = 40deg C. with Prime 95.
I just applied AS Ceramique and got a 5deg C. drop. I wasn't in any danger zone, but also was curious to see the effect.
Some data points for ya' all.

I recently handed my old gaming rig case (X2 3800+ Manchester w/Zalman 9500, Super LANBoy case, TrueBlue 480W, DFI NF4 LANParty UT mobo. 1GB Kingston RAM, and eVGA 8600GTS) to my parents for their VERY casual use.
The rig had better stuff (1900XT which is now in my P180, 2GB G.Skill, and assorted HDD's), but I've gradually swapped out the better parts that won't see use with my parents, and replaced them with older parts I had lying around.
I recently swapped out the X2 3800+ with an old San Diego 4000+ (single core). I wasn't sure if I was able to do that w/o repairing a Windows install, so I installed the Zalman (smooth surface, BTW) and did I quick boot to see if Windows would load. It did just fine - and while keeping a look at the temps, they stabilized around 32deg C. I left it on for 15 minutes with no change in temps.
I ran an instance of Prime95 w/FPU torture test and temps never broke 40deg C. Given that my parents will never do anything to sustain a 100% load on the CPU, I am now leaving it as-is (no paste). Thoughts?
