Just got the new Rig running and want to transfer 400 Megs of data files to her...

What's my best bet??? Looking for something "painless" that won't "disturb" my new system...

1.) Upload files to FTP site (my wife has access to one) and then download to new machine?

2.) Try to "plug in" my old HD to my new machine just to transfer files?

3.) Use something like a "Fastwire" program... This was an old program that used the com or serial connection on two machines to make an "instant" 2 machine network for file transfer purposes... Anyone heard of this program? Is there something out there like it? Maybe even Freeware?

4.) None of the above...

I vote for 'plug in old HD'...network setup can be a hassle....or how 'bout Direct Cable Connection (hyperterminal? been a while ;))

<edit> I think 'hyperterminal' (windows proggie) is the serial program you're lookin for....mebbe </edit>

Another vote for hard drive 2 hard drive

all you need to do is switch the master/slave jumper and plug in

#2 of course, otherwise burn it on a CD if you don't want to open things up.

hdd 2 hdd is probably the fastest way, but it can get kinda sloppy with all the jumpers, moving stuff around, etc.

If you already got a network (ethernet) set up between the two computers though, then file-sharing should be a breeze, painless and relatively fast.
