Paying full list price for audio equipment is pretty much unheard of, that's even rarer than paying list price for a car. Further this credit/rebate is restricted to use at Amazon, unlike the usual rebate.
That better be one hot receiver because the mechanics of the offer stink big time.

I took the offer about half a day before the OP. Yes, you shouldn't buy this receiver for $1299. But the street price is just over $1000, excluding eBay sellers. So $899 is a good deal, not an amazing deal.
Today, I do see exactly one shop offering it for $899 straight up, if anyone is still interested (http://www.rythercamera.com/catalog/product_info.php?csv=pg&products_id=52055). I was waffling between the X4000 and an Emotiva bundle for $799: http://shop.emotiva.com/collections/processors/products/umc-200-upa-700-bundle. Audyssey MultEQ/XT32 and SubEQ tipped the scales for me, but the Emotiva deal looks pretty good for those who want separates.
As for Amazon credit, that's as good as cash to those of us who do a lot of shopping there. And as a little added bonus, my Amex 3% cashback applies to the whole $1299, so I'm actually at $860 on this unit -- only $200 more than I paid in 2008 for a refurbished and unsatisfying Onkyo.

please show me an Authorized Denon dealer that sells denon x-4000 at less than msrp. Denon will not touch your receiver if it's not from an authorized dealer.
POOPS! Missed it.
avscience.com are authorized dealers and JD will hook you up with as good a deal or better, when it comes to Denon and many other products.
It's part of the well known avsforum.
