So, I got 400 dollars to spend and I was thinking of buying an overclocked combo from The Overclockerz Store. Something like a Duron or Thunderbird overclocked to 1000 with mobo, ram and a cooler. Anyone have any better ideas?

Ive heard bad things about that online store. Check out ResellerRatings OCZ have a terrible score on there. What system do you have now. That would help us give you options for stuff to buy.

With $400, I would get:

Athlon 900 - $141 shipped (Pricewatch)
MSI K7T Pro2-A - $122 shipped (Pricewatch)
A FOP38 - $26.35 shipped from Sidewinder Computers

Total: $289.35 including shipping. This rig should do 1.1-1.2GHz for you :)
You can buy some more RAM or case fans or something with the left over money.

If you really want to blow your money, you could go for a higher speed processor and/or an Alpha HSF. But IMHO, that's just wasting your money.

Not sure if you would be lucky enough to get a processor that would do 1.1-1.2 Ghz on a 900Mhz chip.

I know most of the sucess stories come out of 1Ghz chips that do 1.1 with ease and the rate gem that does 1.4 Ghz. I have never heard of a large number of people hitting 1+Ghz on a >900Mhz Athy.

But generally durons overclock real easily :D

I'd check out the FS & Trade forum from a user like compuwiz. He has nice prices on overclocked Athy/Duron/P3s. Its not as good as the OCz store but then again you get what you pay for :)

Right now I've got a celery 300 overclocked to 450 with a crappy mobo, a Creative Labs Geforce 2 GTS, 128 megs ram, and a few more pci cards.
