Speaking of 40 year olds being funny...........I think overall the whole generation X *edit (45-65) took their parents work for granted. I know my parents did.....my mother had the chance to go to college, as well as my dad, but that just "wasn't for them". Now instead of having logical debates and arguments, I'm dealing with people whom in a losing verbal argument will resort to just throwing anything they can clamor for because they know they are morally or culturally wrong. A great example of this is my dog needs to go to the vet, I mention this to my parents and after the fourth mentioning to them they simply told me that I was "obsessing over it" when the dog is fucking bleeding through the entire house. I then throw a line about telling THEIR parents, my grandparents about this (whom are pet lovers) and obviously they realize not doing anything about the dog isn't a solution. Like, how the fuck do you let your mind become that dunce that you try to argue against taking a bleeding pet to the vet?

TLDR: It's not 40 year olds or any age bracket in particular, its the culture they were raised in. They saw mommy and daddy busting ass, then found out that they didn't need to work nearly as hard to make the same amount of money, and no street smarts. I don't see many 40 year olds that are foreign-born pulling shit like that when I visit my friends houses, but my parents are borderline redneck/white trash and will end every argument with "well fuck you I'm right". I see this with their friends as well, and I'm also not saying this is a common norm. It just pisses me the fuck off that my grandpa would bust ass, and now I'm watching him (and other older folk) get pissed at how bad Gen X'ers are handling shit.

Another great example: My grandfather retired from his union, 3 years later the new presidents (being under 45) decide to remove medicare or some shit for the retirees due to 1-2 members needing life support features. Guys...... YOU WILL BE OLD SOON AS WELL. My grandpa says this shit happens incredibly often now, and within 15 years it will be changed back because of how old they'll get and realize "oh shit we need this now".

/rant

EDIT: my dad's own words after becoming disabled at 43-45: "I already gave an arm and a leg for my family, I'm not going to die working". Like, the fuck dude. Then don't have 3 kids and give the first one a entire CSU ride plus a fucking new 0 mile dealership car. And a 1.7k$ laptop. You wouldn't be low on money if you know, you SAVED cash instead of spending it like a 21 year old without a family.

I'm still 53 and taking care of my Grandmother as my Mother got killed in a car accident two weeks before my graduation in 1980, and she was an only child and my brother is completely unable to handle anything after my Grandfather with 5 bronze stars at least had enough VFW pull died a few years ago left over to help us with that mess after 18 months of fighting with them to even start trying to help out.

I had even lost a high paying job and was on Unemployment for awhile during that time, even though I'd been paying into it 40 years, that's not frigging welfare.

You figure it out.

The baby boomer generation doesn't start at 45. (1946-64) They are generation x.

Yeah my bad, been sick all week :p

Rinaun, what you got are family problems not, generational problems.

I'd agree with you but I've noticed a handful of families function like this; not many though. I blame most of it on the blatant drugs my father has used because he's "disabled and his back hurts". I have no idea if they even look into the shit he takes at this point and frankly I'm just biding my time here for the next few months before I move out :p

I never said that every single 53 year old has ruined the system. A large portion did, though. Go look at all the people retiring at 45 riding on past wealth, setting up laws to benefit themselves. Unions are a great example of this. Once older boardmembers pass away or retire, the focus changes from pensions and 401k's to pay raises and job perks because why worry about stuff when your boardmembers are 55 you can just make swing changes to the rules and solve the problem.

It took me a while, too. I think he's trying to say that he's not one of the people ruining the world like I described, which is great. The problem is for every person who was thrust like him into a situation where he had to step up for others, there is 20 other families that built wealth over the 40's, 50's, and even 60-70's and then the generation X pissed it all the fuck away without having to go through any turmoil.

Yeah, at this point tonight I'm not even going to bother trying to explain it.

Sorry it was a spurt like that but that was the gist of it.

I think most males by 30 are men by default, but I know men in their 50's who aren't adults.

Men can be adults, and they can also be more immature and inexperienced than most of the 20 year olds I know of in the military. Again, it's the culture and environment you are surrounded in. If the hardest part of getting what you wanted in life was going to the bank or asking your parents for the credit card, how do you think that will set you up for success when you face actual hardships? Picking yourself up at a young age from mistakes is easy, but as you get older it leads to serious lasting effects like depression, unsatisfied feelings and thoughts, and in some cases suicide/self-harm.

Having worked in customer service in the past it's made me realized that adults are children are not that much different.

Most adults are just children with bank accounts, intellectually and emotionally.

As a 40+ year old, I can say from experience that we're all funny because we're bitter.

I wish I was in the 40's-50's crowd. Like being a millennial but with greater opportunities and less "darn those lazy millennials" cane waving sentiment we have in the media today.

Nah, we just had to listen to the baby boomers constantly tell us how wonderful things were back in the sixties and how they were just about to change the world.
