The Kurt Cobain thing seems to be the biggest dividing line when I talk to younger people. He was the voice of my generation, I graduated HS in 97. Nirvana's music, and the grunge music that came with it, kicked off the 90s and carried it through. People who are now old enough to drink were too young to really remember Nirvana and to them Kurt Cobain is "that dead guy".
