Thread makes me feel old. I would have figured the spice girls were older so that was kinda surprising.

Very little about that list makes me feel old, except for the girl from Jurassic Park being older than I am. And that made me feel more shocked than old; I had no idea she was that much older than me to begin with. Everything else... meh.

Some of those make me kind of scared. I actually remember a lot of that stuff. The Macaulay Culkin one, though...I basically grew up watching Home Alone.

Also, I was kind of surprised the Rugrats are around my age.

Graduated college in '86. I'm practically vintage.

Oyeve, too.

Graduated from the Navy in '87.

Show some people in HS (or up to 25 years old or so) this thing and ask them to identify it:

8+Track+Tapes.jpg

How much do you want to bet that most of them will say "tape backup for computers?" Shit, I remember when a cassette tape was the only backup for my computer, lmao.

Yer all a bunch of kids...I "graduated" from the USMC in 1973...by the mid-80's, both my kids were in grade school. My youngest was born in 79. Hell, my oldest grandson turned 12 a couple of months ago...

I remember some of the things in that post...but not fondly. (well...maybe the teletubbies  :p) I was old enough that most of it was aimed at my kids...or at teenagers.

I remember when 8-tracks became popular. You HAD to have an 8-track player in your car...and a fucking suitcase to carry around enough cartridges to get through a night of cruising...then, OMFG! cassette tapes became the new rage..."Look how small this is...and it's a whole album!"

compare her supposed age to the supposed published current ages of the Spice Girls in that article.

So...who's lying?

:p

I believe my mom still has several 8 track tapes and maybe even a working player.

You guys should go on Youtube and watch the commercial compilations from when you were a kid. I was born in 1970 so I went and watched some of the compilations from the early 80s. I thought it was pretty remarkable how many of those commercials I remember well and I also thought the newsclips interspersed in the commercials were interesting, especially things like 11% auto financing and 17% mortgages.

The only thing on that list that somewhat blows my mind, probably because I spent so much time following it, is how long ago all of the lord of the rings buzz started.

Probably the worst format ever made. No random seek like vinyl and no fast forward like cassette. You basically had to listen to the album straight through or jump into the middle of songs on the other three tracks.

You got that right!

You can actually fast forward an 8 track. Not rewind though. Of course once you figure out how it works with FF and track changes it was relatively easy (in the day) to find your song...

Speaking of commercials...

Some where downright scary:

Now the "question" sounds hilarious but in the 70s nobody knew. ;)

I'll be 29 next month and yeah, almost all of that brings back memories of the 90s.

I'm edging towards 30 *shudder* and the moves and music always tend to hit home. Mostly because I remember them so well so it doesn't seem like they were as long ago as they were

Check out the simulator:

http://www.donationcoder.com/Software/Mouser/2XL/index.html

It's Flash and you can plug in the original tapes and use it just like a 2-XL. I think I only had the General Information tape.

Wow that's pretty neat. The only thing I'm not seeing is his LED eyes flash with his speech. Probably hard to do with Flash. ;)

It's pretty good because if you track jump (press buttons at random) he gets "pissed" at you. Just how I remembered it. (From 1979)

my grandmother left me a huge box of those when she passed away. i have some of Elvis, bing crosby etc. wonder if they are worth anything.

when my daughter seen them she laughed. when i told her one of them held as much as a CD she giggled. then i showed her a tape casset! lol

I think that's what strikes me the most as well, or has the most emotional impact I guess, the music and movies. Reminds me of better days.
