What is the secret to being a "new customer" again?
Without that, deal is gone, and I would guess most here have shopped there before.

OK, this is too good to pass up. I'm getting the Replay TV...and to think I almost bought it last week for $100 more :)

update:The MS passport discount is applied after the mercata discount. So you get an approximate discount of $86, not $100. I guess the one good thing is the Passport discount is applied after shipping and taxes are added.

I was looking into buying a Tivo and the Replay tv tivo is almost the same price as the Philips after the rebates described above. The one thing that I don't understand is the $100 loyalty rebate. I see the mail-in rebate on Mercatas site but nothing about an extra $100 for loyalty. Can you help me out?

The roylaty rebate is only available if you are a previously registered ReplayTV brand owner. If you own a showstomper this rebate is not valid for you.

O.K.
Tough scenario. I'm looking to get a Tivo or Replay TV but can't decide which one. The Replay TV doesn't have fee's right? So it makes more sense to go that route? But can it be hacked to add hard drives?

Decisions, decisions....

Help,
ScAndal

Well,
I just did it on a Calculator and with out the loyalty discount it comes out to:
30 Philips--$113.25 $10/month $100/year $200/lifetime = $313.25 w/lifetime service
30 ReplayTV-$231.52 Free Service
Both prices reflect 20% new mercata, 20%Passport after mercata rebate, and $100 MIR

Difference: $118.27 in favor of Philips
Difference with lifetime service: $81.73 in favor of ReplayTV

So if you plan on having it and the service for more than a year then it is better getting the ReplayTV. Who knows if Philips might start giving the service for free in the future though.
Can anyone tell us if both these models can be hacked to add hard drives?
Thanks...

Both can be hacked (check out the forums at www.avsforum.com), however, only recently have people discovered how to hack the Replay. Currently the process for hacking a TiVo is much, much easier (although still requires some hardware knowledge). I do suspect that in a few months, the Replay hacking procedure will be refined to be as easy as TiVos.

With that said, it may be a better Idea to examine the features of the products rather than thier hackability (since it is no longer an issue).

As to the internet features: ReplayTv has announced a feature called Myreplaytv.com that allows you to program shows to record over the internet. OF course since your unit only dials in once a day, you will have to visit the site prior to the dial in.

I'm so close to ordering a ReplayTV....
Yes they are hackable! Plus that internet deal is pretty cool.
Does anyone know if the Replay TV has Macrovision Protection on it?

Thanks,
ScAndal
