40.72 drivers hang desktop after playing UT in Win 98??

I just got my GF4Ti4600 installed and have been doing some heavy gaming. I was using the 30.82's at first till I made some 3DMark2001 passes and saw some low results incertain tests (nature). I know, I know- 3DMark don't mean crap. I updated to the latest 40.72's for Win 98, and problems started.

After playing UT and letting the monitor go into stby, I get a garbled mess of lines on my screen when wakening to the desktop. This ONLY happens after playing UT?? No problems with any other games. I happened to score 1st for similiar rigs, running default 3DMark2001SE- 12,564.

I'm thinking it's some sort of refresh rate thing between my desktop and games?? Monitor is set to optimal refresh- I tried 75 and 85 running at 1024*768 without success.

I'd like to run the 40.72's AND not have the problem with UT!! Any ideas?? Remember I'm running Win98 not XP. I tried Rivatuner, but didn't really know how to set refresh rates, so I uninstalled it. Rig is in my profile.

The 40.72's seem to give some computers fits, I know this week I upgraded the drivers to the 72's in three computers and one would lock up on games it never had problems with and when you shut the computer down you get a test look on the monitor, One ran better than it ever did, I don't see that windows has anything to do with it, It works good on some but not all, You might want to drop over to amdmb and see what they are saying

izzit that nvidia already post a updated 40.72 driver for win98 user after some complaint ..need to download again.
