4 x 6 Speakers

I recently had my front deck 4" x 6" speakers start to distort on me in my 88' Caprice.

I have infinity kappa 6 x 9's in my rear deck and so I've been having my fade like 8 to the back and it's getting old. I miss my "in your face" front speakers even if my back ones do sounds really good.

I went to the local car audio store. They had some 2-way Clarion speakers on display. They sounded pretty good but I'm not sure what model and they wanted $80 for them...

Keeping in mind that I know that they rip people off/ have heard stories... ( whether or not it is true I don't know) I decided to try to find the same kind online...

SRC4617 - 2007 model - coaxial 2-way $22 +shipping

SRG4620C - 2008 model - coaxial 2-way (says RMS is 30@4ohms... $35+shipping

SRC4695 - PROAUDIO -4x6 -2-way plate speaker $60

I have a deck that puts out 50RMS x4 ( @2ohm i'm thinking)

So... like i said i'll just be powering them with my head unit/ deck

Help/ suggestions?

thanks a ton

Yes zim, they are :p :)

In my signature i have a link to my website. I owned a fireworks for two years... so... I've always got fireworks laying around lol.

eldorado99, nope they're factory. I could easily fit 18" rims on it though. i've thought about it.... but held off/ saved my money instead lol.

thanks for link zim but i've used that already/ It doesn't apply to me since I'm going to have the stock grills off since one of them broke/ my car is indeed OLD and so the front dash is cracked where i took off the grill and i don't want to make it any worse. ( besides that my interior, etc is in VERY good condition :p ( I take care of my stuff )

Only size restriction is the actual size ( 4x6) , not the mounting depth.

The problem you are going to have in a Caprice is mounting depth. Unless you get into competition quality speakers, power to 4x6's won't be your issue. Don't get anything too heavy duty otherwise they won't fit. I like the Polk DB series speakers if you are going with deck power. I also recommend bass blockers if your deck doesn't have a built in high pass filter. 4x6's are not meant for bass. Please don't try to make them produce it.

I sold and installed car audio for a long time (8 years total I think). I only say that so that you know I am not a 16 year old Best Buy idiot.

Do you guys have any Guild Wars or anything? That would be sweet to watch with everyone shooting each other with Roman Candles and such.

Thanks for the info rude guy. Like I said though in the OP, I'm not putting the factory covers over the speakers so the mounting depth isn't a huge deal/ they can stick up somewhat/ i'll make some spacers, etc to get the speakers screwed down. I'd like to have the factory covers on but like I said the top dash is brittle big time.

I googled the Polk DB series:
MMC460 - Championship Performace $59 + 7s/h

db461P - two way - plate $70 +14s/h

db461 -two way - coaxial $41 + 12s/h

suggestion...?

NO. If you actually went to the website you'd be informed that the SOLE PURPOSE of the guild is to promote the SAFE use of fireworks. Having roman candle wars, etc. is Missusing the product and so when the boy down the street looses an eye over it, the media swarm in and give fireworks a horrible label.

Statically, fireworks are safer than bowling.

The 1st ones are the Momo's. Fuckin awesome speaker when amped and crossed over.
2nd look like great plates. If you are going to make a custom mount and run off deck power, go for these.
3rd are the tried and true db's. They will probably go right in.

What deck are you using? Can you link to it or post the model number?

Let me run out to my car real quick and see if i can find the model number off of it. If i can't find it then I'll try to google it until i find it sort of? ( I put the deck in about three years ago )

What all would it take to put an amp in..? ( the speakers don't come with cross overs...:/ )

If I do buy an amp I'd like to amp my Infinity Kappa 693.7i 6 x 9 speakers also.

I've thought about putting components in but that involves cutting and rewiring/welding in new brackets, etc. etc etc.... Plus I plan on getting a different car in a while. I'll keep this car still but yeah.

Kappas are nice :)

Amps are to be installed professionally. proof 1 and proof 2. Look for a 4 channel with very low THD and slightly more RMS power than your speakers are rated for. Infinity makes some very nice 4 channels that won't ding you too bad.

If you can't find the model number, just tell me what kind it is what features it has. If its 3 years old I can figure it out from there.

Yeah, i've looked at the inifinity amps, they don't carry many but I've heard good things about them.

I believe I can manage to install it. I understand the concept of Ohms, watts, amps, somewhat and ol' dad is a mechanic and specializes in electronic problems if i need some help.

pic=wow blow something by chance....? >_<

Closest thing i could find to mine

My deck is blue and looks nicer though than the one i linked to.
It's a Pioneer, super tuner IIID, sat radio ready, wma,mp3 cd compatible, there's no usb port or anything like that and the faceplate is detachable.

If you get an amp, please pay to have it installed. Those pics I linked to were from an 81 cutty that a guy tried to do a basic amp install in. He melted his car to the ground. Plus with a 4 channel, if you don't do it right, it will sound like ass. Its worth the cash to have it look and sound the way its meant to.

That deck says it has a high pass fitler on it. Just set it to ~60 and you should be fine. I would go with your current deck (I love Pioneer decks) and grab those plate 4x6's. The only thing is, they don't come with covers. So if you want them hidden, you are going to have to create something.

I haven't looked at the manual for my deck in quite a while. When you set the highpass filter, how do you just have the front two speakers get the hi-pass set and not the back ones.....?

I'd pay but if I can't figure it out ( I double check /triple check before i do things, hence why i work in a parts department I'll just have my friend help me install the amp if i get one. His dad owned a stereo shop in town here until a year before he graduated ( four years ago) so he has installed tons of speakers/decks/etc. and he went to school / just got done with college going into music production and engineering? or something like that.

EDIT

Oh and so I shouldn't go for Championship one(MMC460 ) because...? Just wondering.

If you are just using your deck, then it will filter all the speakers excecpt anything going through the RCA's. With an amp, you can dial in each speaker. You can purchase bass blocker too. The just get wired in with the speakers. Really easy to install, it doesn't matter if they go on the positive or negative side. They are usually a couple bucks each. The momo speakers you linked to are...well they used to include crossovers.
