4-way must be supported by the chipset. However, as its name indicates, the memory must be composed of at least 4 banks of memory. For instance, if you have a 64mb chip thats 2x32, then you cannot run it as 4-way. But, if you have a 256 4x64 or 8x32, then you are all peachy. For most chips +128mb today you don't have to worry about having 4 banks, unless you buy high density 128mb at 2x64.
